Where does the data area start?
The data area in a FAT file system starts in what is known as Cluster 2.
In FAT12 and FAT16, the root directory follows the second FAT and Cluster 2 immediately follows the root directory.
In FAT32, Cluster 2 immediately follows the second FAT.
